ClearV Laser

What is the ClearV Laser?

The ClearV is a Nd:YAG 1064 laser that is the gold standard for removing vascular lesions (spider veins, telangiectasias, port wine stains, leg veins, periorbital veins) on the face and body.  We use this laser in conjunction with Broadband Light and Broadband Light HERO to reduce the redness or erythema that many rosacea suffers contend with daily.  The reason why the 1064 is considered the standard to remove facial vessels is because it has a strong absorption to something called oxyhemoglobin.  This allows the laser to selectively heat veins to remove them or make them less visible while not harming the skin.  Therefore, we can treat darker skin types without concerns of changing the pigment color of their skin.

How is the ClearV different from other 1064 Nd:YAG Lasers?

The ClearV is the now the industry standard for Nd:YAG vascular lasers.  This laser allows Subsurface Vein Illumination or “SVI”.  Most Nd:YAG lasers use something similar to a flashlight to illuminate the area being treated.  And until now, that was considered the standard and acceptable.  SVI was designed to enhance not only the vessel we are targeting, but all the feeder vessels.  If we can’t see the feeder vessel(s) then the success of the treatment will be hindered.  This is why the 1064 Nd:YAG laser sometimes was not successful in clearing stubborn vessels.  You can’t treat what you can’t see.

I liken this to my dermatoscope that I use to detect skin cancers.  My dermatoscope has special polarized and non-polarized light to enhance the lesion of concern.  This is the same concept as Subsurface Vein Illumination.  It uses special yellow and orange LED light to illuminate the feeder vessels.  This allows us to treat the visible and often nonvisible vessels in the same treatment.  Simply put, we can now provide better outcomes than ever before.

What does the Nd:YAG 1064 Vascular Laser treat?

  • Spider veins
  • Telangiectasias
  • Port Wine Stains
  • Leg Veins
  • Periorbital Veins
  • Occasionally, brown spots, warts, and toenail fungus called onychomycosis

What areas of the body does the Nd:YAG Vascular Laser treat?

  • Face is the most common area, although technically any area of the body can be treated with this laser. If we are treating around the eyes, intraocular shields may be utilized.

How many treatments do I need?

  • We recommend starting with a single-treatment and see how you respond to treatment. Typically, vessels respond well to treatment, but it is not uncommon to need more than one treatment for larger or thicker vessels.  Average number of sessions is between 1 and 3.

Can I combine the Nd:YAG 1064 Vascular Laser with other laser treatments?

  • Yes, we sometimes combine Broadband Light or Broadband Light HERO with the Nd:YAG 1064 laser so that we can target both the diffuse redness of the skin (or sometimes brown spots), as well as eliminate the larger telangiectasis.

Is the Nd:YAG 1064 Vascular Laser
painful?

  • This is not really a painful laser. We do not even numb for this treatment.  Also, there is an adjustable integrated cooling system in the handpiece that ranges from 5-25° C to help keep the skin cool and comfortable.  The treatment is usually very quick!

What is the recovery like?

  • Some redness in the treatment area along with some swelling and itching are common. This may last a few days.  Occasionally, there may be some scabbing that should heal without problems.  We will review the entire treatment and recovery process with you during your complimentary consultation.
