The Nd:YAG 1064 laser is the standard for removing vascular lesions (spider veins, telangiectasias, port wine stains, leg veins, periorbital veins) on the face and body. We use this laser in conjunction with Broadband Light to reduce the redness that many rosacea suffers face on a daily basis. Occasionally, the 1064 Nd:YAG may be used to treat brown spots on the skin, although this not our “go-to” laser for brown spots. The reason why the 1064 is considered the standard to remove facial vessels is because is has a strong absorption to something called oxyhemoglobin. This allows the laser to selectively heat veins to remove them or make them less visible while not harming the skin.
What does the Nd:YAG 1064 Vascular Laser treat?
- Spider veins
- Telangiectasias
- Port Wine Stains
- Leg Veins
- Periorbital Veins
- Occasionally, brown spots, warts, and toenail fungus called onychomycosis
What areas of the body does the Nd:YAG Vascular Laser treat?
- Face is the most common area, although technically any area of the body can be treated with this laser.
How many treatments do I need?
- We recommend starting with a single-treatment and see how you respond to treatment. Typically, vessels respond well to treatment, but it is not uncommon to need more than one treatment for larger or thicker vessels. Average number of sessions is between 1 and 3.
Can I combine the Nd:YAG 1064 Vascular Laser with other laser treatments?
- Yes, we sometimes combine Broadband Light with the Nd:YAG 1064 laser so that we can target both the diffuse redness of the skin (or sometimes brown spots), as well as eliminate the larger telangiectasis.
Is the Nd:YAG 1064 Vascular Laser painful?
- Typically, this is not a painful treatment. The system utilizes a patented and integrated SoftCool system. This along with topical numbing medication is sufficient for almost all patients. If the patient still has anxiety about the treatment, we can also utilize Pro-Nox. Pro-Nox delivers a mixture of 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide. This device is a 100% patient-controlled form of inhaled anesthesia. Simply breathe deep and in seconds there will be immediate relief of pain and anxiety. The Pro-Nox anesthesia leaves your body in just a few minutes after treatment. You can continue your day immediately after treatment. Pro-Nox can be added on to any laser treatment to increase your comfort.
What is the recovery like?
- Some redness in the treatment area along with some swelling and itching are common. This may last a few days. Occasionally, there may be some scabbing that should heal without problems. We will review the entire treatment and recovery process with you during your complimentary consultation.
